Dec. 2, 2008 - Annual Neighborhood Energy Sweep contributes to city's greenhouse gas reduction goalsContact:Beth Powell, Office of Environmental Affairs, 303-441-1846 Jodie Carroll, Media Relations, 303-441-3155 www.bouldercolorado.gov/ The 2008 door-to-door "Neighborhood Sweep" program funded by the City of Boulder's ClimateSmart campaign, Boulder County and administered by Longs Peak Energy Conservation, resulted in a reduction of 1,823 tons of carbon dioxide (CO2) (over the lifetime of the energy products provided), contributing to the City of Boulder's goal of 417,500 tons of carbon avoided by the year 2012. The 2008 sweep was held Saturday, Oct. 4 at the Boulder Meadows mobile home park. Forty-five volunteers pulling carts laden with energy-saving products knocked on 495 doors and gave energy kits and directly installed compact fluorescent light bulbs (CFLs), low-flow showerheads, and clothes drying racks in 225 homes. Each year the sweep targets a different Boulder neighborhood consisting mostly of older housing stock, where many homes need energy efficiency upgrades. This year's sweep identified Spanish speaking volunteers with the goal of serving residents with limited English proficiency, and to provide information on the county's income-qualified weatherization services. In 2009, the sweep will engage neighborhood kids living in the selected neighborhood in advance of the event to encourage their parents to participate. Distribution details:
