GO Boulder: Bike Parking Survey - General
Bike Parking Update and Community Survey
(Para información en Español)
The City of Boulder
is exploring options to update its bike parking requirements for future residential and commercial developments. We would greatly appreciate it if you could take a few minutes to complete a short online survey about your bike parking experiences around town. This survey is part of a "Bike Parking Update" project. Please click on the following link to complete the survey:
About the Bike Parking Update project
Similar to automobile parking, the City of Boulder relies on property owners to provide bicycle parking that will meet the demand of customers, employees, residents and visitors. Bicycle parking is required to be installed as part of new commercial and multi-family residential developments. While the city requires developers to provide bike parking, there is currently no policy on the type and amount of short-term verses long-term bike parking required.
This project aims to review and recommend amendments to city policies that require bicycle parking as part of future commercial and multi-family residential development projects. An objective is to adopt policies to require short-term as well as long-term bike parking facilities as described below.
Short-Term Bicycle Parking offers a convenient and readily accessible place to park bikes for customers, deliveries and visitors. It is generally located on the public access level, within 50 feet of building's main entrance and outside of the building.
Long-Term Bicycle Parking offers a secure and weather protected place to park bicycles for employees, residents, commuters and visitors who are often at the site for several hours. Generally it is secure, covered and may be installed in a conspicuous location to deter theft.
Project Goals
- Encourage bicycling as a transportation option by providing safe and convenient places to park and store bicycles.
- Ensure adequate bicycle parking based on demand generated by various building uses and level of security necessary to encourage use of bicycles for short and long term stays.
Your input is important

Next Steps
During July and August 2009 staff will gather public opinion on bike
parking requirements and demand. An analysis will be conducted and recommendations developed on ordinance amendments that consider the public feedback received. Staff will present the recommendations to city decision makers for their consideration throughout the fall of 2009. A detailed schedule of public meetings will be posted soon. Please check back for updates.
