Managing Yard Waste

Yard waste is collected in curbside compost carts as part of basic waste management services.

How It Works

Your trash hauler will pick up your yard waste. On compost collection days, place any of the following at your regular collection location (in the alley or at the curb):

  • Yard waste in trash hauler-provided compost carts;
  • Leaves in compostable paper- or starch-based bags; and/or
  • Up to three bundles of branches per collection day (the bundles should be no larger than six feet long by three feet in diameter and tied with twine or other natural rope).

You can also request a larger compost cart on an annual or seasonal basis, or schedule an additional individual pickup by your hauler for an extra fee. Contact your waste hauler for pricing and more information.

City of Boulder Yard Waste Drop-off Site

Yard waste and wood waste drop-off is available year-round at Western Disposal's Trash and Recycle Center, 5880 Butte Mill Road. The drop-off center is open from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday, and from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturdays.  This service is free to Boulder residents, and Boulder businesses pay a discounted fee.

For more information on the drop-off sites, including what materials are accepted, visit www.westerndisposal.com.

Notice

The city will not collect any loose yard waste piles that are left on the curb.  However, waste haulers may collect any loose piles along with the trash and charge it to the customer's trash bill.

For more information, please contact your waste hauler.
