Celebrating 40 years of yoga for every body at Boulder Parks and Recreation

The first yoga class was taught at the North Boulder Recreation Center in 1969 by Cheryl Abbott. The class became popular. Cheryl added classes until she was the sole teacher of 12 yoga classes a week.

Janet Jacobs became the yoga program coordinator in 1986 and added more instructors and class levels. In 1993, Louann Harlow became yoga program leader, adding classes for youth as well as Tai Chi, Chi Kung, Feldenkrais and other mind/body practices for achieving and maintaining optimal health.

Forty years later, there are now 52 registered adult weekly classes with a friendly make-up policy and visitors option, a dozen drop-in classes each week and 18 children's classes from parent/child 6 weeks through high school.

Many classes are taught by Boulder's leading instructors. We are grateful for the wonderful support of our department, instructors and students in creating 40 years of safe, enriching and deep yoga experiences for all ages and fitness levels.

We invite you to celebrate yoga with us everyday at a Boulder Parks and Recreation facility near you.
