Free Mulch Pile

The City of Boulder and Western Disposal provide free mulch for Boulder residents.

Take Pearl Parkway; turn north onto 49th Street; then turn east onto Pearl Street. Go straight across the multi-use path and then look for the free mulch pile directly ahead or to the right.

The free mulch is three inches in size and is made from wood and yard waste dropped off at Western Disposal's waste drop-off sites. The mulch is available year round.

* Please be prepared to self-load the mulch, as no staff or loading equipment is available on site.

Why use mulch?

Wood and yard waste mulch can be used in landscaping to improve the soil and help conserve water. Using ground wood and yard waste mulch for landscaping can reduce the amount of water used to keep plants in a healthy state. Mulch should be applied every year to maintain an insulating layer between the atmosphere and the soil.

Dropping off yard waste?

The yard waste drop-off site is located at Western Disposal, 5880 Butte Mill Road. Please do not leave any yard or wood waste at the mulch pile site! For more information on the yard waste or wood waste drop-off sites, visit www.westerndisposal.com.
