What's New:

Reduction of toxic and hazardous waste is the primary focus of the City of Boulder's Industrial Pretreatment program. Boulder is required by federal and state law to regulate industrial discharges to the city's wastewater utility.

Wastes from industries, commercial businesses and households can create hazards for wastewater collection lines and treatment plants, which are not designed to treat toxic materials.

Industrial by-products can interfere with wastewater treatment operations, or pass through the system untreated resulting in contamination of Boulder Creek. Pollutants can also accumulate in the city's treated biosolids, which are applied to agricultural lands.

By pretreating their wastes, industries can reduce pollutants discharged to the city utility, ensuring that industrial development is compatible with a clean environment.
