Cherryvale Trailhead

LOCATION

66 South Cherryvale Road. West of South Cherryvale Road approximately 0.1 mile south of South Boulder Road.

The main administrative office is located just past the trailhead parking lot along the access road. Look for low buildings surrounded by pasture. The offices are frequently used as a location for public meetings. You may visit the offices Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. for information and brochures, and to obtain Voice and Sight tags. PARKING

Parking lot at the trailhead and north of the driveway into the Open Space Office / Administrative Center. Horse trailer parking is available. Parking is also available by the offices.

TRAILS

South Boulder Creek Trail  is accessed from this trailhead by following the trail east from the trailhead, then north along South Cherryvale Road and west along South Boulder Road. At the South Boulder Road underpass, the trail heads north to meander along South Boulder Creek, eventually crossing Baseline Road and via Gaptor Road connecting to the Centennial Trail (a hard surface path). You may also continue west at the underpass for approximately 0.1 miles where the trail turns south along South Boulder Creek. The trail ends 1.8 miles south of this gate at Marshall Road. Dogs are not allowed on the South Boulder Creek Trail west of the Cherryvale Trailhead or south of South Boulder Road.

RESTROOMS

Available outside the Rocky Mountain Riding facility sunrise to sunset. To find restrooms, continue west on the driveway at 66 South Cherryvale past the Open Space Administrative Offices to the horse arena and riding stable. Restrooms are on the west side of the stable.

BIKE REGULATIONS

Bicycles are allowed on the South Boulder Creek Trail except north of the bridge to the East Boulder Community Center where bikes are required to remain on the paved greenways trail. A bicycle rack is available at the trailhead. Bicycles may be ridden only on those trails that are posted with the international bicycle symbol.

DOG REGULATIONS

All dogs must be leashed in the Trailhead Leash Area. Dogs are not allowed on the South Boulder Creek Trail south of South Boulder Road. Dogs must be on a hand-held leash on the Cherryvale Trail. On the South Boulder Creek Trail north of South Boulder Road, dogs must be on a hand-held leash unless they meet the voice and sight control standard and display a City of Boulder Voice and Sight tag. Dog regulation maps are available on the Dog Regulations by Area page. Dog excrement removal is required by law.

HORSE REGULATIONS

Horses are allowed on all trails. On-trail riding is encouraged to protect rare plants and wildlife habitat.

WILDLIFE

This area is significant for ground nesting birds, raptors, rodents and small mammals. Fish and invertebrates are abundant in the creek (State fishing regulations apply). The creek and wet meadows also provide habitat for unique plant life.
