What is a Neighborhood Parking Program Zone
What is the Neighborhood Parking Program ?
A Neighborhood Permit Parking (NPP) zone is a residential area where street parking is restricted. The NPP program was developed as a tool to balance the needs of those who park on our streets including residents, visitors and commuters. The Neighborhood Permit Parking program was adopted by the City of Boulder as part of the new Transportation Master Plan.
Preserving the character of our neighborhoods
The Neighborhood Permit Parking Program is designed to make Boulder neighborhoods safe and pleasant places to live, work and attend school by encouraging less driving and reducing on-street parking congestion. Each neighborhood in the program has public parking limits that are unique to that area and take into account the neighborhoods’ particular needs.
In areas that have Neighborhood Permit Parking, residents have asked the City to create special zones where on-street parking for non-residents is limited.
Permits that allow a vehicle to park in an NPP zone beyond the posted restriction are available to residents, visitors, employees and commuters.
Neighborhood Permit Parking Zone Restrictions
Each zone is color coded. Vehicles without a permit may park one time only per day and after the initial time limitation, may not repark in that color zone on the same day.
Vehicles with permits are exempted from posted parking restrictions.
Who can get a Neighborhood Parking Permit ?
Permits are available to:
- Residents who live in a Neighborhood Permit Parking zone may purchase up to two resident permits for each vehicle registered in their name at a cost of $17 each per year. With the purchase of a resident permit, each household may receive two free visitor permits at no additional cost.
- Businesses located within a zone may purchase up to three business permits for use by its employees for $75 each year. Large businesses located in an NPP zone may apply for additional employee parking permits.
- Nonresident commuter permits are available on a limited basis and are specific to one neighborhood parking zone. A commuter parking permit costs $78 per quarter.
