Tree Pruning Program
We contract most of our pruning work with tree service companies while some of our smaller tree pruning is accomplished by in-house staff. Contract work is scheduled by neighborhood to be cost effective through a systematic management approach. When a large snow or windstorm causes significant damage to trees, it ensues a temporary diversion from our systematic tree pruning schedule in order to address immediate hazardous situations. Currently, the street trees are on a 10-year pruning rotation and the park trees on a 7-year pruning rotation. Adjacent property owners are permitted to prune street trees on public property, however, we require that you call the Forestry section first to get authorization and pruning specifications. When hiring an arborist to prune a tree on City street right-of-way, we require that you use a certified arborist with a right-of-way license registered with the City’s Inspection Services section. Beginning in September the wood lot will be open on Wednesdays and Thursdays for the convenience of our wood cutters/workers. Wood cutters are encourage to call first before they come for wood. For more information please contact the Forestry section at 303-441-4406, Monday - Friday, 7 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. Recommended Tree Species for Boulder back to Urban Forestry main page Last Updated on Wednesday, 26 September 2012 13:13 |

The Urban Forestry section prunes park and street trees on a rotational basis to enhance tree health and ensure public safety. Trees are pruned to remove dead branches, provide clearance over streets and sidewalks, improve branching structure, and to promote the overall health of trees.
