Ticket Information

You may appear in court on any ticket and must appear unless the mail-in box on the front of the ticket is checked. Court appearance may take up to three hours. Court costs ($25) are added to fines for all defendants who appear in court and plead guilty or no contest or are found guilty. You must keep the court informed of your current and correct mailing address and telephone number. Court personnel are not allowed to give legal advice. Failure to appear is a separate offense which carries a maximum penalty of $1,000 fine and 90 days in jail. Your bond will be forfeited for any failure to appear. Failure to appear for a traffic case may result in judgment for the amount owed, the assessment of points against your license, a suspension of your driver’s license, and/or a warrant for your arrest. (Other costs may also be assessed.) Juvenile defendants may have a hold put on their driver’s license for failure to appear even on a nontraffic matter. Failure to appear on any nontraffic offense will result in a warrant for your arrest.

Juveniles: A parent or guardian must appear with juveniles on all nontraffic offenses.

Plea bargaining: You will have the opportunity to discuss your case with the city prosecutor on your appearance date. In traffic cases, you may receive a mail-in plea bargain from the prosecutor prior to your court date.

Mail-in tickets: If the mail-in” box on the face of the ticket has been checked, you may plead guilty by signing the guilty plea below and mailing in or delivering the specified fine amount before the court appearance date. If you choose to plead guilty to a traffic violation, the number of points set forth in the charge will be reported to the Colorado Department of Motor Vehicles. Make check payable to the City of Boulder and mail to Boulder Municipal Court, P.O. Box 8015 Boulder, CO 80306 or deposit in the Boulder Municipal Court drop box at the Boulder County Justice Center at 6th Street and Canyon Boulevard, 1777 6th St., Boulder, CO. All mail in guilty pleas are subject to final approval by the Judge.
