Frequently Asked Questions about the Duck Race
~When, where and what time is the race? The race takes place at 4 p.m. Memorial Day, Monday, May 28, 2012. The race kicks off with the Duck Derby. The Duck Derby is a float parade down the Boulder Creek for sponsors and supporters of EXPAND and the Boulder Parks and Recreation Foundation. All the floats will race down the river and the first float through will win bragging rights. Immediately following the Duck Derby the EXPAND Duck Race will begin. Thousands of ducks will be dumped from the 9th Street Bridge and will finish near the Boulder Creek Library lawn also known as the Peace Garden. ~How does the duck race work? The number on your ticket will be assigned to a rubber duck and that duck along with thousands of other ducks will be dumped off of the 9th Street Bridge. All the ducks will race to the finish line and the first 50 ducks or so through the finish line will be assigned a prize. ~Do I need to be present to win? No! The winners of the duck race will be posted on our website: www.expandduckrace.org. However, all prizes will be mailed and winners notified within 14 days. ~Where do the proceeds go? The proceeds benefit the EXPAND (EXciting Programs Adventures and New Dimensions) Program. EXPAND provides recreational opportunities for individuals with various disabilities. You can find EXPAND programs in the Boulder Parks and Recreation Guide. Past proceeds from the Duck Race have gone to offer scholarships, summer camps and purchase adaptive equipment such as water-skis, bikes, sport wheelchairs, a lift van, and much more. ~Can I keep my duck? Sorry, No! All the ducks need to start training and carbo loading for next year's race. ~Is my duck sponsorship tax deductible? Yes. You will get the 501c3 number on your receipt. ~What will happen if the weather is too bad and the water is too high for the race to happen? The safety of all Boulder Creek Festival attendees and EXPAND Duck Race staff is our top priority. Therefore, if creek or weather conditions are deemed unsafe by event staff, an alternative EXPAND Duck Race will be held on land in front of the Community Dance Stage at 4 p.m. on Monday, May 27 (during the Boulder Creek Festival). The stage is in front of the gallery entrance of the Boulder Public Library (on the north side of Boulder Creek). All winning ducks will be listed on the website after the event - and prizes will be awarded 14 days following the race (as usual). Thanks for your support of the EXPAND Program.
