Maureen Rait
Maureen joined the City of Boulder staff in 1990 as the Assistant Director of Public Works for Development and Inspection Services. Her responsibilities expanded in 1995 to included facilities and asset management, and again in 1998 to include fleet services. She served as the Acting Director of Public Works from August 1997 to August 1998. From 2001 to 2008, Maureen partnered with colleagues to jointly manage the Public Works Department. The Public Works Department has a staff of 286 people, an operating budget of $71.6 million dollars and a capital budget of $13.6 million dollars. Prior to working in Boulder, Maureen worked in the municipal engineering field for other local governments in Colorado and California and in the private sector. Maureen received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Civil Engineering from Ohio Northern University, and a Master of Public Administration Degree from California State University, Fullerton. She also completed the Leading, Educating and Developing (LEAD) program at the Weldon Cooper Center for Public Service at the University of Virginia. Maureen Rait has been the Executive Director of Public Works since February 2008. In this role, she oversees the Utilities and Transportation Divisions in coordination with Tracy Winfree (Transportation) and Jeff Arthur (Utilities) and directly manages the Development and Support Services Division. She also co-manages information and administrative resources with David Driskell, Executive Director of Community Planning & Sustainability (CP&S), as the Department of CP&S and a portion of the Public Works Department are part of a service area and a special revenue fund called "Planning & Development Services" (P&DS).
