Dog Waste Bag Tubes

Ever wondered about the design of the innovative dog waste bag tubes that are found at parks throughout Boulder?

We use PVC pipe and matching sized end caps, both of which are commonly available from irrigation or plumbing supply sources, to make our own economical dispensers. We install them at selected park locations, often near a waste receptacle and City ordinance sign stating pet owners' responsibilities for clean up. Cooperative citizens then fill the dispensers with newspaper bags or other types of plastic bags, and park users help themselves.

Using 4-6 inch diameter pipe, we cut pipe sections approximately 18 -24 inches long. Then, we use a circular cutting attachment to put 3-4 inch diameter holes into the sides of each pipe, approximately 4-5 inches from each end. We place the caps on each end, grind the holes smooth, and place a decal on each dispenser describing its purpose and inviting people to help keep it filled with bags. The decal says something along the lines of "Please insert empty bags into the top hole to help keep this dispenser stocked, and take an empty bag from the bottom hole when you need one.
