May 30, 2007 - City offers informational session on improving commercial energy efficiency
Contact(s): The City of Boulder's Office of Environmental Affairs is hosting an informational session on the Building Performance Program and energy efficiency for local businesses and commercial property owners from 8 to 10 a.m. on Thursday, June 7, at the Boulder Chamber of Commerce, 2440 Pearl Street. This free session will discuss opportunities to participate in the program, methods to improve energy efficiency in commercial property spaces, and available rebates from Xcel Energy. The Building Performance Program helps local businesses and property owners lower energy costs, improve building comfort and performance, and reduce their facility's greenhouse gas emissions. Eligible participants receive a free audit that identifies cost-effective energy efficiency and renewable energy opportunities. A post-audit report provides ROI (return on investment) data, and participants also receive assistance with implementation and rebate applications. The program is open to commercial buildings in the City of Boulder with at least 5,000 square feet of conditioned space. Program applicants are asked to provide information about their facility, any energy efficiency efforts made to date, and expected timelines for implementing new cost-effective energy efficiency and renewable energy measures. "The free services help participants make smart, cost-effective decisions that save money through reduced energy costs and benefit the environment through reduced greenhouse gas emissions," said Kevin Afflerbaugh, the city's energy sustainability coordinator. The Building Performance Program is funded through the Climate Action Plan tax approved by Boulder voters in November 2006. This program is one of several efforts initiated by the city to achieve greenhouse gas reduction goals set forth in the city's Climate Action Plan. To support the program and business owners in implementing identified energy efficiency opportunities, local equipment vendors and contractors have signed up for the program's Trade Ally Network. A listing of current participants is available at www.environmentalaffairs.com/ under Energy an Climate/Trade Ally Network.
