Background: Walk & Bike Week is coordinated each June by GO Boulder/City of Boulder. It was first hosted by the City of Boulder in 1977, 30 years ago, as "Bike to Work Day." As its popularity and sponsorship interest grew so did the event. In 1982, it expanded to Walk & Bike Week. Since 2003, Boulder has coordinated with the Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) and Denver Regional Council of Governments (DRCOG) to include Walk and Bike Week in the celebration of Colorado Bike Month as well as to promote Bike to Work Day in the Denver metro region.  Boulder continues to add various local touches to the event.

Goal: Increase awareness and use of Boulder's over 300 miles of award-winning and convenient bike and pedestrian facilities.

Approach: Boulder's Walk & Bike Week is a partnership of the city, local businesses and the community. From January through June, events are planned that highlight Boulder's award-winning walking and biking facilities to demonstrate how convenient, easy and cost-efficient it is to walk and bike.

Expectations:   Over 4,000 participants are expected to bike or walk on Bike to Work Day, with countless others participating in various events during the week-long event.
