Compressed Natural Gas:

Compressed natural gas is the same gas you use in your home kitchen range or water heater.  Compressed natural gas (CNG) is very clean compared to gasoline or diesel.  There are a number of vehicles that are available to run on compressed natural gas.

Electricity:

The electricity in your house can be used to charge an electric vehicle.  The emissions from electricity generation are centralized and can be made cleaner than the exhaust from small mobile sources like vehicles.

You can now buy a hybrid electric vehicle that can be converted to a plug-in hybrid electric vehicle.  These vehicles have been shown to get better than 100 miles per gallon in many cases. 

City Use of Alternative Fuels:

The City of Boulder currently uses E85, B20, propane and CNG.  We have had positive experiences with these fuels and plan to expand their use in the future.  Using these fuels has helped the city reduce its greenhouse gas emissions below our Kyoto protocol reduction goal.
