Sept. 11, 2007 - Home Energy Makeover contest will include one Boulder home
Contact(s): The City of Boulder's Office of Environmental Affairs (OEA) is co-sponsoring the 2007 Home Energy Makeover, and encourages eligible city residents to fill out an online application by the deadline, Saturday, Sept. 22. OEA is partnering with Lakewood-based nonprofit Colorado Energy Science Center (CESC) and Xcel Energy in the annual contest in which two winners (one in Denver Metro, one in Boulder) will benefit from $25,000 worth of energy-efficient upgrades such as a new furnace, air conditioner, windows, insulation, duct sealing, lighting and water heating. For the first time, this year's contest will include a solar photovoltaic system donated by a Boulder-based company. Last year's contest winners cut their natural gas usage by 47 percent and reduced their energy bills by 41 percent last winter. To be eligible, residents must fully complete the entry form, own the home, receive natural gas and electric service from Xcel Energy, and live in the Denver/Boulder area. Funds for the city's portion of the program sponsorship come from the Climate Action Plan (CAP) tax, which supports ClimateSmart programs designed to reduce greenhouse gas emissions in the City of Boulder.
