The City of Boulder's Office of Environmental Affairs (OEA) is hosting an informational workshop on solar electricity for local business and commercial property owners from 7:30 to 9 a.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 13, at the Boulder Chamber of Commerce, 2440 Pearl St.  This free workshop will review the main aspects of installing solar systems in business.

"With increasing energy prices and concern about climate change, many businesses are trying to decide if solar electricity is a wise investment for their facility," said Kevin Afflerbaurh, City of Boulder energy sustainability coordinator.  "However, the financial issues involved with solar may appear complex because there are various rebates, tax implications, and accounting issues associated with buying a solar system."

To help clear up the complexities of installing solar, this workshop will focus on the financial aspects of solar for a business or property owner.  This workshop will present an analysis of solar for commercial facilities and will discuss the costs as well as the financial incentives available to businesses through rebates, tax credits and accounting measures such as depreciation.

This workshop is a component of the city's Building Performance Program that provides services to the commercial sector to reduce greenhouse gas emissions in line with the city's Climate Action Plan.
