Maintaining the Walking and Bicycling Network
On-street bicycle lanes
Well groomed and inspected twice weekly. During a winter storm, streets with bike lanes are incorporated into snow routes and are some of the first to be cleared. In heavier snow, on-street bike lanes may not immediately be cleared of snow and ice as plowed snow builds up along the curb and gutter. Be careful in these areas.
Multi-use paths and underpasses
Checked out informally and swept weekly as crews are out on the paths during their work day. Formal inspections are completed quarterly and trees adjacent to paths are trimmed annually. During a snow storm where at least one inch of snow accumulates, we begin plowing paths at the same time as streets. The Broadway Path, between Eben G. Fine Park and 55th Street is plowed first, followed by the Foothills Parkway Path and others. Plows complete two passes every 12 hours to remove snow.
Sidewalks
City ordinance requires property owners adjacent to a sidewalk to clear it of snow and ice by noon the day after a storm. This includes any sidewalk that abuts the property and the portion of the sidewalk that projects across an alley. To report sidewalk snow removal violations, please call Environmental and Zoning Enforcement at 303-441-3239 or fill out the online report form.
