Industrial Pretreatment ProgramGeneral InformationThe primary focus of the City of Boulder's Industrial Pretreatment Program is to reduce the amount of toxic and hazardous waste that enters Boulder's wastewater utility. Waste from Boulder's industries, commercial businesses and households can create hazards for the community's wastewater collection system and treatment facility. Industrial byproducts can interfere with wastewater treatment operations - or pass through the system untreated, potentially contaminating Boulder Creek. Pollutants can also accumulate in the city's treated biosolids, which are applied to local agricultural lands. By pre-treating their waste, Boulder industries can help reduce the amount of pollutants that are discharged to the city's wastewater utility. The goals of the Industrial Pretreatment Program are to:
