The City of Boulder's Office of Environmental Affairs and two local businesses (Hogan & Hartson and Cleantech Solutions) have co-founded and are launching the 10 for Change challenge to local businesses with a kickoff breakfast meeting from 7:30 to 9 a.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 17, at Hogan & Hartson, 1470 Walnut St, Suite 100.  10 for Change is a voluntary, free program for Boulder area businesses committing to reduce their energy use by 10 percent during the period of October 2008 to October 2009.

The meeting will include a program overview, tips and ideas from Cleantech Solutions, the City of Boulder and other energy efficiency experts, a question and answer session, and networking opportunities.

Because commercial and industrial buildings account for approximately 59 percent of the City of Boulder's greenhouse gas emissions, the 10 for Change challenge is designed to motivate Boulder area businesses to reduce their energy use.  The challenge is open to all business types and will require businesses to monitor and report their energy use.

The city's ClimateSmart team will offer presentations to employees of member companies on easy ways to achieve the 10 percent goal.  10 for Change sponsors will host bi-monthly gatherings to promote networking and to discuss energy saving ideas and opportunities.  Awards and recognition will be available for those businesses achieving energy use reductions.  Businesses joining after Oct. 1, 2008 will still be included in the challenge.

Visit www.10forchange.net/ or contact Kevin Afflerbaugh at 303-441-4191 for additional information on member registration, technical assistance for determining baseline electricity consumption, suggestions for energy efficiency solutions, and a schedule of the bi-monthly networking events.
