Green Building

The Local Environmental Action Division (LEAD) co-sponsors the Green Building and Green Points Program to encourage the use of sustainable remodeling and building methods to conserve energy, water and other natural resources.

Finding the right products and designs for your new home or remodeling project can be as important as finding the right professionals to do the job. The Green Points program offers plenty of ideas for making your project more "green," allowing you to choose the green building methods that best fit your design or preferences. Each approved product, building measure, or design option you select earns you points toward receiving your building permit.

The Green Points program helps you or your business to:

  • Find products and designs to make your project more "green";
  • Use remodeling and building methods that are cost-effective, sustainable, and that conserve fossil fuels, water and other natural resources;
  • Recycle construction materials and reduce the solid waste from your project; and
  • Achieve better indoor air quality.

The Green Points program applies to all new commercial construction and residential additions and remodels larger than 500 square feet.
