Help reduce summer Ozone pollution. Take these actions on Ozone Advisory Days, or everyday.

On the Go

  • Drive less to reduce tailpipe emissions. Combine errands, walk, bike, car pool, use public transit or telecommute.
When refueling, stop when the nozzle clicks to prevent fuel drips.
  • Refuel in the evening to prevent fuel vapors from "cooking" into ozone.
  • Keep your tires well-inflated to increase gas mileage and decrease the need to refuel.
  • Don't idle your car. Turn it off to limit tailpipe emissions.
Park your car in the shade to reduce fuel evaporation from the engine & tank.

Around Your Yardlawnmower.jpg

  • Use a clean lawn mower, such as an electric, push or 1997 or newer gas model.
  • Keep your mower running clean. Service it once or twice a season. Keep the mower under-deck free of grass build-up.
Use a funnel to refuel equipment. Avoid even small fuel spills & drips.
  • Hand-trim your yard. Don't use equipment with 2-stroke engines.
  • Don't mow, let it grow. Delay lawn mowing until ozone advisory days pass.
  • Reduce watering to discourage excessive lawn growth.
Xeriscape to conserve water and reduce lawn mowing.
Don't use barbecue lighter fluid. Use an electric starter or charcoal chimney instead.

At Homepaint.jpg

  • Use water-based paint, stain & sealants.
  • Plan solvent-based painting and stripping projects for Spring & Fall.
  • Use paint brushes & rollers instead of spray paints.
Tightly cap all solvents & chemicals and store in a cool place.
  • Avoid use of household solvents on ozone advisory days.
