  • On Wednesday, June 19 and Thursday, June 20 there will be daytime lane closures on northbound 63rd Street south of Lookout Road to allow for the construction of a new sidewalk on the east side of North 63rd Street.
  • This is Phase 1 of the 63rd Street Missing Sidewalk and Links Capital Improvements Bond Project.

Arapahoe Avenue Reconstruction CIBP hard hat

  • Arapahoe Avenue is reduced to one eastbound lane of traffic between Folsom and 15th streets, with westbound traffic and both directions of the JUMP bus detoured onto Canyon Boulevard.
  • The full-time westbound lane closure will remain in place through mid-August 2013.
  • Travelers are encouraged to bike or walk along the Boulder Creek Path, ride buses, or use Canyon Boulevard and the downtown parking garages if driving.
  • There will be sidewalk detours in place and a sidewalk on one side of the street will always remain open.
  • Businesses along Arapahoe Avenue will remain open and the Boulder Farmers’ Market will remain at its current location.
  • This Capital Improvement Bond Project involves reconstructing Arapahoe Avenue into concrete from Folsom to 15th streets.

Boulder Junction - Pearl Parkway Improvements CIBP hard hat

  • During the week of Monday, June 17, Pearl Parkway from west of 30th Street to Frontier Avenue will be narrowed to one lane of traffic in each direction, 24-hours a day.
  • The eastbound lane on Pearl Parkway will be aligned on the north side of the roadway between 30th Street and Frontier Avenue.
  • The speed limit in the area will be reduced to 25 mph.
  • The multi-use path on the south side of Pearl Parkway will be detoured within project limits.
  • The 24/7 lane reductions and associated traffic impacts will continue through summer 2014.
  • This Capital Improvement Bond project includes multi-way boulevard improvements to the south side of Pearl Parkway from 30th Street to the BNSF railroad.

Boulder Transit Center Area Improvements CIBP hard hat

  • The one-block section of 14th Street between Canyon Boulevard and Walnut Street is permanently closed to general vehicular traffic and dedicated to bus, bicycle and pedestrian traffic only.
  • During the three-month construction period, the bus loading/unloading areas will be temporarily located on 14th Street between Canyon Boulevard and Arapahoe Avenue.
  • After the project is completed in September 2013, 14th Street will reopen to bus traffic, and bus loading/unloading operations will relocate back to the Boulder Transit Center.
  • There will be an outside lane closure on Walnut Street between 13th and 15th Streets.
  • The HOP bus stop near the intersection of Walnut and 14th streets will be temporarily relocated just west of the current location.
  • This Capital Improvement Bond project includes transportation improvements to expand access and accommodations for buses, bicycles, and pedestrians at the Boulder Transit Center.

Concrete Repair and Pavement Management

  • During the week of Monday, June 17, there will be temporary lane impacts between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m. at the following locations:
    • North Boulder area from 23rd to 28th streets and Iris to Tamarack avenues;
    • South Table Mesa area from Table Mesa to Greenbriar, and from Broadway to west city limits;
    • 11th Street from College Street to Euclid Avenue;
    • Cascade Avenue from 12th to 17th streets;
    • 20th Street from Baseline Road to Broadway; and
    • 27th Way from Broadway to Baseline Road.
  • There will be parking restrictions along the work areas and pedestrian detours will be in place at the intersections where the ramp improvements are being made.
  • Crews will be repairing concrete curbs and gutters and improving pedestrian ramps.
  • This work is being completed in advance of the 2013 street resurfacing/reconstruction work that begins this summer and will continue through the fall.

Goose Creek Habitat Restoration Project

  • During the week of Monday, June 17, construction vehicles will be accessing the project area from the Boulder Creek Path on the north side of Cottonwood Pond.
  • Boulder Creek Path users must comply with all traffic control personnel and be prepared to stop.
  • Colorado Parks and Wildlife will be removing non-native fish species from the pond. It is illegal for anyone to relocate these fish to Boulder Creek because they are non-native species that would have safety and ecological impacts on the creek.
  • Crews will continue working along approximately 4,000 feet of Goose Creek between Foothills Parkway and Cottonwood Pond. Vegetation removal in the area of Cottonwood Pond will continue for several weeks.

Lane Closures for Fiber Cable Confirmation

  • During the week of Monday, June 17, crews will be working from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the following locations:lane-closures-fiber-cable-confirmation
    • Table Mesa Drive from US 36 to South Boulder Road;
    • The turn lane from westbound Table Mesa to northbound Broadway;
    • Canyon Boulevard from Broadway to 5th Street;
    • Walnut Street from 17th to 5th streets;
    • Pine Street from 15th to Folsom streets;
    • 28th Street from E. Aurora to Arapahoe avenues;
    • 28th Street from Pearl Street to Iris Avenue; and
    • Valmont Road from 28th to 47th streets.
  • There will be intermittent traffic impacts, lane closures and restricted parking in the work zones.
  • Work is expected to continue through the month of June.

Street Maintenance Projects

  • During the week of Monday, June 17, crews will be working from 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the following locations:
    • Monday, June 17 - on Overlook, Kenwood and Norton drives, and Dartmouth Avenue.
    • Tuesday, June 18 - on Gallatin, Ingersoll and Holmes places, Johnson Court, and Kennedy and Landis circles. Also, in the alleys at 26th and 27th streets between Spruce and Pine/Folsom streets, to 27th Street between Mapleton and Pine streets.
    • Thursday, June 20 - in the 4700 block of McKinley Drive, and, Lee and Kellogg circles.
    • Friday, June 21 -  in the 4700 block of Harrison Avenue, and the 1100 and 4700 blocks of Hancock Drive, Waite Drive, Shoup Place and Teller Circle, including the 1200 block of Pleasant Street.
  • There will be traffic delays and lane changes, with limited access and parking. Alternate routes are advised.

Street Resurfacing and Reconstruction

  • During the week of Monday, June 17, the following streets will be reduced to one lane of alternating traffic or have lane reductions from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.: 
    • Laguna Place;
    • Thunderbird Circle;
    • Monroe Drive;
    • Elder Avenue (Broadway to 19th Street);
    • Fern Place;
    • Garland Lane;
    • Iris Court (north of Iris Avenue);
    • 17th Street (north of Iris Avenue);
    • Quince Circle;
    • Wonderland Avenue (Poplar Avenue to Quince Circle);
    • 16th Street (Pearl to Pine streets);
    • 17th Street (Walnut to Pine streets);
    • 18th Street (Pearl to Spruce streets);
    • Spruce Street (19th to 20th streets);
    • 20th Street (Walnut to Pine streets);
    • 21st Street (Walnut to Pearl streets);
    • 24th Street (Spruce to Pine streets);
    • Juniper Street (East of 26th Street);
    • Kalmia (23rd to 28th streets);
    • 26th Street (Iris to Tamarack avenues); and
    • Jay Road (26th to 28th streets).
  • Crews will be working to complete asphalt milling, patching and asphalt resurfacing at these locations.

Table Mesa Drive at Vassar Drive Maintenance

  • On Monday, June 17 and Tuesday, June 18, the path from Table Mesa Drive and Vassar Drive to Deer Valley Road will be closed for maintenance.

Waterline Replacement Project

  • During the week of Monday, June 17, crews will be working at the following locations:
    • Heidelberg Drive (Gillespie Road to Loyola Court); and
    • Loyola Court.
  • Crews will be replacing corroded waterlines at these locations. The work is scheduled to be completed by July 2013.
  • The annual waterline replacement project involves temporarily disconnecting then reconnecting water service.

Arapahoe Road (State Highway 7) Reconstruction pdfLane Closure Report

  • During the week of Monday, June 17, southbound 63rd Street, north of Arapahoe Avenue, will be closed for utility work. The northbound lanes on 63rd Street will remain open.

  • During the typical work hours of 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Monday through Friday each week, traffic control personnel will be present to direct traffic. 
  • Speeds will be reduced to 25 mph through the work zone and travelers can expect 15 minute delays during peak travel times and work hours. Motorists are asked to slow for the cone zone and to obey all signs and traffic control personnel.

Daytime Road Closures in the University Hill Neighborhood

  • There will be daytime closures on the following streets in the University Hill neighborhood:
    • Grandview Avenue between Lincoln Place and Broadway;
    • 10th Street between Marine Street and University Avenue; and
    • 11th Street between Marine Street and University Avenue. 
  • An Xcel Energy contractor will be replacing gas mains in these areas. The project will take two to four weeks to complete.

Diagonal Highway (State Highway 119) and Jay and Niwot Roads Intersection Reconstruction

  • The Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) will be reconstructing the intersections of the Diagonal Highway (SH 119) and Jay and Niwot roads. 
  • During the project, CDOT crews will reconfigure the intersections of the Diagonal Highway (SH 119) and Jay and Niwot roads, including widening the highway to accommodate both northbound and southbound turn lanes, widening Jay and Niwot roads to accommodate both eastbound and westbound turn lanes, adding medians, improving traffic signals, adding and improving sidewalks, and making drainage/irrigation improvements.
  • Work will take place Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.
  • There will be some detours and lane shifts required throughout the project, as well as some occasional night work. The speed limit will be reduced to 40 mph through the work zone. 
  • The work will help improve the efficiency and safety of moving traffic through the intersections.
  • The intersection reconstructions are expected to be completed by May 2013.
  • The $4.5 million project is funded as part of the FASTER (Funding Advancement for Surface Transportation and Economic Recovery) legislation, which is dedicated to improving safety and replacing poor bridges throughout the state.

Niwot Road Between 55th and 63rd Streets

  • During the week of Monday, June 17, Boulder County will be working on Niwot Road between 55th and 63rd streets.
  • The road will remain open, but there may be lane closures and delays during paving operations. Drivers should expect unpaved road sections, uneven surfaces, paving operations and minor delays.
  • The work will include removal of the existing asphalt pavement, reworking the dirt shoulders, and applying a new roadway surface, including new four-foot wide paved shoulders.
  • The work is expected to be completed by mid-June, though schedules are subject to change due to weather and other factors.
  • This work is the final segment of the Neva/Niwot Shoulders & Roadway Reconstruction (U.S. 36 to 63rd Street) project that began last fall. When finished, the project will complete a missing link and provide continuous road shoulders from US 36 to 95th Street in Niwot .

Sidewalk Closure Along Southbound Broadway Between 17th and 18th Streets

  • During the week of Monday, June 17, the sidewalk along southbound Broadway will be closed from just north of 17th Street to 18th Street.
  • Pedestrians will be detoured to the north side of Broadway at the crosswalks at 17th and 18th streets.
  • Construction signs, barricades and fencing will be in place. The closure will be in place for one month.

US 36/Foothills Parkway (State Highway 157) Bridge Deck Replacement
  • One of the two on-ramp lanes from Foothills Parkway (SH 157) onto eastbound US 36 will be closed 24 hours a day, seven days a week through spring 2013.
  • This right lane closure will result in substantial delays for vehicles trying to enter eastbound US 36 from Foothills Parkway.
  • There will be three weekends during construction when the on-ramp will be closed completely.
  • The Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) will be replacing the bridge deck that supports the on-ramp.
