Paint the Pavement Pilot Project

Paint the Pavement Community SurveyKid_painting_mural
Your input on the Paint the Pavement mural is important. Please take a moment to view the Paint the Pavement Project video, and online photos on this page or view the mural in person at South 31st Street near Bucknell Court. Then, take a few minutes to complete the city's Paint the Pavement Community Survey. The survey takes about 10 to 15 minutes to complete and is your opportunity to describe the benefits, detail any concerns, and offer personal opinions on the impacts of the mural. Your feedback will help GO Boulder to evaluate whether to expand this program to other parts of the city.

On Sunday, SeHoney_and_beespt. 27, 2009 residents painted a colorful mural on the roadway of South 31st Street between the two intersections of Bucknell Court. It is a part of the City of Boulder's "Paint the Pavement" pilot project which allows residents to paint murals on public streets. This pilot project was developed in response to the enthusiastic interest of community-minded Martin Acres neighbors and with the encouragement of the City of Boulder Transportation Advisory Board (TAB) and Boulder City Council. The goals are to build community and rethink the use of roadway public space.

Project Background: The city has developed a Paint the Pavement Application Packet that outlines the process this Martin Acres neighborhood followed to obtain city approval to paint a mural in a public right of way. Prior to accepting any new applications, the city is evaluating this project to understand neighborhood and community reactions, how well the paint holds up, and whether there is an impact on traffic speed, volume or safety. Community interest to expand the program by allowing murals to be painted at other locations in the city is also being assessed.
