ClimateSmart at Work

The City of Boulder's ClimateSmart at Work Program aims to reduce energy costs, improve the comfort and performance of Boulder's buildings, and make businesses more profitable.  The city is partnering with Xcel Energy in 2008 to provide a greater range of services for the Boulder community.

The services will help you make smart, cost-effective decisions about lowering operating costs and increasing the comfort and reliability of your buildings. In addition, high performance buildings are eligible for special recognition from the City of Boulder.

Over sixty Boulder businesses have participated in this program since its launch in 2004.

What do participating businesses receive?

Energy audit performed by professional engineers
• Includes a site survey of your building followed by a report of the findings

• Recommendations for no/low cost strategies for saving energy, operations and maintenance strategies and retrofit opportunities

• Assistance in receiving utility rebates for your projects and reviewing contractor bids

Which building types are eligible to participate in the program?
All building types including office buildings, medical facilities, grocery stores, and warehouses. Buildings must be located in the City of Boulder.

What is the purpose of this program?
The City of Boulder is committed to helping local businesses reduce energy costs by helping assess energy efficiency opportunities and by providing implementation assistance. The program aims to improve building efficiency and marketability and promote available utility rebates. The program will help the city evaluate the average performance of Boulder's buildings and provide insight on what long-term services and programs the city should offer in the commercial sector. Program participants will be encouraged to offer feedback on what services are most desired.

How much does it cost?
The energy audits (valued at over $2,000) cost only $200.  This amount is charged directly on your energy bill from Xcel Energy.   However, if your business is less than 15,000 square feet, the city is providing a rebate for the $200 audit cost.
