This fall, south Boulder neighbors got together before their annual block party and painted a colorful mural on S. 31st Street near Bucknell Court. The mural is part of a pilot project coined “Paint the Pavement,” aimed to rethink the use of roadway public space as well as build community.

The city is asking residents to take a 10-minute survey to share opinions about their perceived impacts of the mural as well as to indicate whether they would be interested in painting a mural in another neighborhood.

“Whether people live in the neighborhood that painted the mural, have passed it in their travels or have only had time to view it on the GO Boulder Web site, the city wants to know what they think,” said Bicycle and Pedestrian Coordinator, Marni Ratzel.

Responses to the survey will help the city to understand broader community reactions and gauge interest in expanding the project by allowing murals to be painted on streets in other parts of the city.  As part of the pilot project, the city is also evaluating how well the paint holds up and whether there is an impact on traffic speed, volume or safety. The survey and information on the Paint the Pavement pilot project can be found at www.GOBoulder.net.
