SUV collides with fire engine

A woman was taken to the hospital with back pain today after she collided with a Boulder fire engine that was headed to a medical call. The accident occurred at 12:03 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 6, at Broadway and Baseline Road. No firefighters were injured, and the female motorist’s injuries are not expected to be life-threatening.

The fire engine was headed east on Baseline Road with its lights and sirens on. The woman was driving her SUV northbound on Broadway. Witness reports indicate that her traffic light had not yet changed to red, but vehicles in all directions had stopped to make way for the fire engine. The woman proceeded into the intersection and was hit by the engine. The SUV spun and hit a power pole on the corner.

Other fire apparatus responded to the original medical call.

The accident remains under investigation. Additional details will be released when they are available.
