The Broadway (Pine to Iris) Reconstruction project is officially 50 percent complete as all roadway lanes between North Street and Balsam Avenue are expected to be reopened by Thanksgiving.  The next segment of construction, Balsam Avenue to the North Boulder Recreation Center, has already begun.

In celebration of the project’s midpoint completion, the City of Boulder, the property owners of the Ideal Shops, Ideal Market and Community Plaza, and adjacent businesses on Broadway are partnering to sponsor a “Holiday Gift Certificate Giveaway.”  More than 70 $25 gift certificates will be given away over a three-week period – drawings will be held on Dec. 5, 12 and 19. Entry forms are available in participating stores.  For complete giveaway rules, entry forms and a list of participating merchants, see the project newsletter available on the Broadway (Pine to Iris) Reconstruction Web site.

The project began in March 2009 and is expected to be completed in the summer of 2010. Broadway (Pine to Iris) Reconstruction improvements include:

  • 5.5 lane miles of new concrete roadway;
  • Replacement of more than 55,000 square feet of sidewalk;
  • Installation of improved transit stop amenities including new bus shelters, bike         racks, trash and recycling receptacles and all new transit boarding areas;
  • Installation and replacement of more than three miles of public water and, sanitary and storm sewer lines;
  • Private gas and electric utility improvements; and
  • Landscaping, public art and urban design improvements in various locations.
