To Reduce Air Pollution

We breathe 30 pounds of air every day.

Will that be 30 pounds of carbon monoxide, particulates and toxins?

Or 30 pounds of fresh, clean, life-giving air?

  1. Leave your car home once a week. You might find that you enjoy walking, biking, carpooling, telecommuting or taking the bus instead.
  2. Get an RTD ECO-Pass - an unlimited use bus pass good on any RTD bus, even the SkyRide to Denver International Airport. It's available from many employers and through some neighborhood associations. For neighborhood Eco-Pass information, call 303-441-4155.
  3. Get a tune-up. It will make your vehicle more efficient and cleaner.
  4. Carpool or vanpool. Call RideArrangers at 303-458-7665 to get in touch with other commuters who want to share rides and expenses, or leave your name for the SchoolPool program.
  5. Tune-up your furnace regularly. Also, clean or change your furnace filter every six to eight weeks.
  6. Improve your indoor air. Test your home for radon. Replace commonly-used paints, solvents, building materials and household cleaners with products that are safer for you and the environment.
  7. Conduct a household Energy Audit. Get free audit information from the Center for Resource Conservation and find out how to save money and make your home more comfortable.
  8. Join Windsource and get clean, renewable energy. This Xcel Energy program provides energy produced from the wind instead of coal.
  9. Clean or replace your old woodstove. New EPA certified woodstoves are cleaner burning, more efficient and safer for the environment.
  10. Get a cleaner lawnmower. Old gasoline powered lawnmowers produce more than their share of pollutants. Get a new electric and/or mulching mower.
  11. Have things delivered. Some Boulder businesses will pick-up and/or deliver items such as groceries, copy jobs, office supplies and catering orders. Ask you favorite merchant about their services. PACE certified restaurants and printers are committed to reducing pollution; check with them first.
  12. Make sure your kids know about air quality. The City of Boulder and Boulder County Health Department provide free air pollution education programs for school groups and will give participating classrooms $50 for school supplies. For information, call (303) 441-1182.
