Police to offer Safety First class for adults with developmental disabilities

The Boulder Police Department will be offering Safety First for Adults from 4 to 6 p.m. on Thursdays, April 1, April 8, April 15, April 22, and April 29 at the Boulder Police Department, 1805 33rd St. in Boulder.

Safety First for Adults is a free five-week program designed to provide safety tips to adults with developmental disabilities.  The curriculum of the program, which is now in its 16th year, covers decision-making skills, street-smart safety, home security, fire prevention and safety, and safety while riding public transportation.

Safety First for Adults is designed for adults who live and work in the community. Participants are asked to attend classes independently as this best reflects their responsibilities while in the community. The classes are a combination of lecture, small group and hands-on activities, and maintain a low instructor-student ratio.  The adult must be able to attend all classes, arriving at 3:55 p.m. and departing at 6 p.m.

Students may attend the Safety First class more than once. The decision to register for a repeat class is made on a case-by-case basis with the class coordinator. The registration deadline is March 25. There will be no exceptions. For more information or to register, please call Kris Gibson at 303-441-3332 or email her at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it .
