Section No. 7-6-13(b)(7): Parking where Prohibited by Sign

It is against the law to park at any place on a street where a traffic control sign prohibits parking, which includes stopping a vehicle even if the vehicle remains occupied. It does not include a vehicle that is stopped very briefly for the purpose of loading or unloading passengers.  If you received a ticket for this violation, you were parked or stopped where a sign prohibits parking.

There are several types of signs restricting parking at all times or some portion of time.

Some of these signs may be reserving a space for vehicles that deliver or perform service work at certain facilities or perform other necessary functions throughout the city.  Some examples of signs restricting parking are:

"No Parking" signs are almost always placed in areas where parking is already illegal. They are used to point out some area that, even without the sign, would be off limits to parking.  The photos below are examples of this type of sign.

The following signs prohibit parking at certain times of the day on certain days of the week.

The sign below prohibits parking near schools on school days, except to pick up or drop off students.

There is no parking in the space to the left of the sign in the photo below during the hours posted except on Sundays and holidays.

Below, these spaces on the Hill (1100 13th St.) operate as regular meters; however, on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday nights from 8 p.m. to 4 a.m. these spaces are designated for taxis only.
