§7-6-13(a)(4)

< Back to list of parking violations

Section No. 7-6-13(a)(4): Parking on Roadway

All vehicles must park at least 7 feet from the centerline of the road.  This allows for the free movement of vehicle traffic.  If you were charged with this violation, your vehicle was parked less than 7 feet from the centerline of the road.  When parked or stopped vehicles leave less than 7 feet of clearance from the centerline, vehicles traveling down the road are forced into oncoming traffic.

In alleyways, vehicles must be parked in a manner that leaves at least 10 feet of width available for vehicles traveling down the alley.  Vehicles stopped or parked leaving less than 10 feet of clearance makes it difficult for moving vehicles to travel down the alley. Service vehicles such as garbage trucks, delivery vans and emergency vehicles need to have clear access on all roadways including alleyways.  This is a safety issue.
