Colorado Soils:
In the city of Boulder, clay soils mean that successful planting and irrigation requires a good knowledge of how to mitigate soil problems. Special care needs to be taken when watering Colorado soils.
Often a soil amendment is helpful to improve soil quality to help with more efficient irrigation and improved plant growth. It's important to look at all the different types of amendments before choosing a soil amendment for your yard.
Mulches that typically sit on top of the soil, do NOT qualify for rebates from the city of Boulder. Still, mulches can be beneficial. Wood mulches, for example can even break down to improve soil quality, however, this takes
much longer and is less effective than amending soil with a compost.

Only composts qualify for rebates. NO mulches. NO peat.

There are many ways to amend soil but compost is the only one which qualifies for rebate. Amending soil can improve root growth and water penetration such that less water needs to be used to keep plants, trees and turf healthy.
