Landmarked Buildings and Historic Districts
Landmark designation is used by the City of Boulder to honor, preserve and protect buildings or areas that have been determined to have a special character and historic, architectural, or aesthetic interest or value to the city.
Types of Landmark Designation
There are two basic types of landmark designation.
Both types of designations have the same protection and require the same procedures or review for exterior changes, though buildings within districts are further differentiated between “contributing” and “non-contributing.” Buildings in the non-contributing category are held to different standards for alterations than contributing buildings.
