Fourmile Canyon Creek (19th to 22nd Streets)  Improvements Project

In March 2012, the city completed a Community and Environmental Assessment Process (CEAP) to evaluate the social and environmental impacts of potential pedestrian, bicycle and vehicular access improvements for the area bound by 19th Street on the west, Upland Avenue on the north, 22nd Street on the east and Riverside Avenue on the south.

The purpose of the project is to improve safety and accessibility to Crest View Elementary School by completing new transportation connections in the area and mitigating potential flood impacts from Fourmile Canyon Creek.

Previous Meetings

Feb. 15, 2012 - GAC Meeting

The Fourmile Canyon Creek 19th - 22nd Streets CEAP was discussed and reviewed by the Greenways Advisory Committee (GAC) at their meeting on Feb. 15, 2012. View the meeting materials.

Oct. 26, 2011 - Open House

The public was invited to provide input on:

  • Pedestrian, bicycle and vehicular access connections in the area between 22nd Street and Crest View Elementary School and Upland and Riverside Avenues; and
  • Flood mitigation improvements at 19th Street and Fourmile Canyon Creek.

Public input received at the May 2011 Open House helped develop several alternatives for consideration. City staff presented updated information on the alternatives, concept-level costs, and potential impacts and benefits of the alternatives.

May 11, 2011 - Open House Presentation

A public Open House was held on May 11, 2011 to kick off the CEAP and obtain community input on potential access options. Proposed pedestrian, bicycle and vehicular access connections as shown in the Transportation Master Plan, Greenways Master Plan and North Boulder Subcommunity Plan were available for review and comments. Information about proposed flood improvements at 19th Street and Fourmile Canyon Creek was also available.

Project Schedule and Next Steps

The city has hired a consultant to complete a preliminary design for the improvements along Fourmile Canyon Creek between 19th and 22nd streets. The city is also exploring flood mitigation and trail options for the upstream reach between Broadway and Upland Avenue in order to connect the flood improvements. The city will be completing a CEAP for the upstream reach once the options have been evaluated. As part of the CEAP, the city will also be exploring options to develop the Violet Park site, an undeveloped parcel in the upstream reach .
