Free “Take a Kid Mountain Biking Day” at Valmont Bike Park to be held Oct. 1

The City of Boulder’s Parks and Recreation Department is partnering with Avid4 Adventure and the Boulder Mountainbike Alliance (BMA) to host “Take a Kid Mountain Biking Day,” from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 1, at Valmont Bike Park (Valmont and Airport roads).

This free family event features mountain bike instruction and an expo. It is part of the eighth annual “Take a Kid Mountain Biking Day,” initiated by the International Mountain Bicycling Association (IMBA) and as part of the Parks and Recreation Department’s partnership with Let’s Move!—a campaign dedicated to solving the problem of obesity within a generation, so that children born today will grow up healthier and able to pursue their dreams.

“We are excited to partner with Avid4 Adventure and BMA to bring this free, worldwide celebration of mountain biking to youth and adults at Valmont Bike Park,” said Kirk Kincannon, director of Boulder Parks and Recreation. “An event like this is a perfect fit for the Parks and Recreation Department’s commitment to providing opportunities for families to get and stay fit as part of our Let’s Move! campaign partnership.”

“Take a Kid Mountain Biking Day” is an easy way to introduce children to a fun, outdoor activity. Kids and parents are invited to participate together in free, 50-minute instructional ride clinics at the 40-acre Valmont Bike Park. Avid4 Adventure’s expert instructors will conduct the clinics every hour between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. An expo featuring an Avid4 Adventure climbing wall and bike tune-ups is also available from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The event will be held rain or shine, and online registration is required at www.avid4.com. Participants are asked to bring bicycles, helmets and water

Parking is limited, so participants should consider bicycling to the event. Visit www.ValmontBikePark.org for more information on directions and parking.
