Greenways Advisory Committee to review proposed improvements near Crest View Elementary School
The public is invited to a Greenways Advisory Committee meeting and public hearing at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 15, in the Municipal Building lobby, 1777 Broadway, to provide comments on the proposed Fourmile Canyon Creek 19th to 22nd streets project. At the meeting, the Greenways Advisory Committee will discuss options and a staff recommendation for proposed improvements, which include:
- Flood mitigation at 19th Street and Fourmile Canyon Creek;
- Emergency access to Tamarack Avenue; and
- New pedestrian and bicycle path between 22nd Street and Crest View Elementary School.
The purpose of the project is to improve safety and accessibility in the area of Fourmile Canyon Creek, within the project boundaries of 19th Street on the west, Upland Avenue on the north, 22nd Street on the east and Riverside Avenue on the south. Crest View Elementary School, located within the project area, serves a large population that includes students east of 28th Street.
Currently, there are limited sidewalks or paths to help facilitate bike and pedestrian travel to the school. Additionally, the roads that provide access to Crest View Elementary are in the 100-year floodplain and would not be safe to cross during a major storm event. This project would improve safety and emergency access needs.
A draft Community and Environmental Assessment Process (CEAP), including an analysis of alternatives, will be presented. After reviewing the draft CEAP and hearing community feedback, the committee will make a final recommendation for City Council’s consideration. City Council is expected to consider the proposals in March or April 2012.
