Energy Future - Heather Bailey selected as new Executive Director Executive Director of Energy Strategy and Electric Utility Development Heather Baileyof Energy Strategy and Electric Utility Development

In early 2012, the city, with the help of a search firm, recruited candidates for a newly created Executive Director of Energy Strategy and Electric Utility Development two-year fixed term position, which can be extended if necessary, to provide direction in the creation of both short- and long-term energy strategies, guide the city in the implementation of new methods of energy management and weigh the community's goals against all possible options, including municipalization.

On April 19, 2012, Heather Bailey accepted the new position and will start work in Boulder on June 7, 2012.

Executive Director Bailey will be charged with establishing an operations and business plan for the successful potential transition from Xcel operations to city-run operations. Executive Director Bailey is unlikely to be the person responsible for the day-to-day operations of a local electric utility, if formed. A search will be held for an Electric Utility General Manager position later if it is determined that the City of Boulder can successfully make the transition to running its own electric utility.
