Cops run/walk/bike to benefit Colorado’s 11,000+ courageous Special Olympics athletes!

The Boulder Police Department’s 2012 Law Enforcement Torch Run to benefit Special Olympics Colorado will be held on Friday, May 18, 2012. Beginning at 930 a.m., the event will consist of a 4-mile run/bike portion, as well as a 1-mile walk and parade. Dozens of police officers, City of Boulder employees and their families and friends have already signed up.

Although a registration deadline is set for this Friday, May 11, to assist with a logistical head count, registrations and donations will be accepted through May 18^th.  Kids can also help out Special Olympics. Once again, there is a youth registration and kids under the age of 15 can register for a reduced fee of $20, which includes a T-shirt. The adult registration fee is $30.  Registration includes a Torch Run t-shirt and donated lunch from the Lazy Dog Grill.  

Members of the public are also invited to join officers for the May 18^th Torch Run. To register online, go to www.firstgiving.com/soco/soco2012torchrun.

The mission of the annual Torch Run is to raise funds and awareness for Special Olympics and athletes with intellectual disabilities. 

Walk/Parade

Participants will start at the Public Safety Building at 1805 33^rd St. in Boulder, and then start walking south along 33^rd Street to the north sidewalk of Arapahoe Avenue. From there, the group will walk east to the 38^th Street underpass for the Boulder Creek Path. The remainder of the walk will be along the creek path to Scott Carpenter Park. Walkers can either reverse their direction along the same path or use the signal light intersection pedestrian crosswalk at 30^th Street and Arapahoe Avenue to return to the Public Safety Building.

Run/Bike

The 4-mile run/bike portion will start and finish at Scott Carpenter Park. Participants will use the Boulder Creek Path, leaving from Scott Carpenter Park headed west to a turn-around point at the Library Bridge. From there, the route will be back along the creek path, east to the 38^th Street underpass and back to the police department.
