Boulder to kick-off Transportation Master Plan update

On Monday, May 14, the Transportation Division will kick off the 2012 Transportation Master Plan (TMP) update process as part of a regular Transportation Advisory Board (TAB) meeting.  At the kick-off event, Kevin Krizek, senior transportation fellow and professor at the University of Colorado, will give a presentation about how Boulder can continue to create a complete and sustainable transportation system.

After the presentation, a panel of local transportation experts, including TAB, will discuss the future of transportation in Boulder in the context of the TMP.  The panel includes:

  • Will Toor, former City of Boulder mayor and  current Boulder County commissioner; and
  • John Tayer, Boulder-area representative and first vice-chair on the Regional Transportation District Board.

This item will begin shortly after 6 p.m.; TAB meets in City Council Chambers in the Municipal Building, 1777 Broadway.

The first phase of the TMP update is an assessment phase, meant to evaluate progress since 2008 and to identify areas that need additional focus and work.  Assessment results will be delivered to the TAB and City Council in late summer 2012.  Council will be asked to establish priorities for the update work. The TMP is the city’s policy document guiding how transportation funding is spent and the projects or programs that the city should focus on through 2035.  The last TMP update happened in 2003 and identified multimodal connections, funding, regional connections and transportation demand management (TDM) as focus areas.
