Safe Streets Boulder
While encouraging more bicycle and pedestrian traffic, we want to ensure that all participants in the community's transportation system - pedestrians, bicyclists and drivers - practice safe travel behavior.
STOP & WAIT [7-4-77] stipulates that when one vehicle stops to yield for a person in a crosswalk, another vehicle cannot overtake and pass that vehicle. |
| 8 IS GREAT [7-5-5] establishes a speed limit of eight mph for bicyclists during the immediate approach, entry and traversal of any crosswalk that spans a roadway. • Penalty: Possible $100 mail-in fine with no point violations. |
| ACTIVATE [7-5-15(f)] requires pedestrians to activate warning devices before entering flashing yellow crosswalks. • Penalty: Possible $50 mail-in fine with no point violations. |
Enforcement
It’s important that you know these rules and follow them just as you would any other roadway law. The Boulder Police Department is proactively enforcing the new crosswalk safety ordinances.
