Heads Up Boulder!

In 2012, the City of Boulder released a report detailing data on collisions that involved motor vehicles and bicyclists or pedestrians. The report shows that, in Boulder, crosswalks are where most of these types of collisions occur. This finding isn't surprising if you consider that crosswalks are where vehicles, pedestrians and bicyclists literally "cross paths" the most.

Part of the collision reduction strategies for Safe Streets Boulder, Heads Up is a collaborative campaign funded by the City of Boulder and a Safe Routes to School grant and administered by the Boulder Valley School District (BVSD). Boulder Police, University of Colorado officials, local businesses and nonprofits also helped to develop the campaign.

How to Make Our Crosswalks Safer

  • Heads Up. That means - pay attention.
  • Know the Rules. The City of Boulder instituted three new crosswalk safety laws in 2012 that are intended to reduce the number of collisions at crosswalks in Boulder.

Crosswalk safety requires everyone to be attentive and aware of traffic laws.

Mind the Crosswalk is focused on enhancing crosswalk safety, a community priority.

Keep your Heads Up and be on the lookout for Mind the Crosswalk throughout Boulder.
