Volunteer opportunity on July 14 to work on the Homestead Trail

City of Boulder Open Space and Mountain Parks trail crews are hosting volunteers on Saturday, July 14, to help construct the new Homestead Trail. This is one of several volunteer trail-building projects sponsored in 2012 that encourage the public to get involved in their open space by doing work on projects under the guidance of OSMP staff.

The popular Homestead Trail ascends from the historic Dunn House located near the South Mesa Trailhead up to Shadow Canyon.  Significant portions of the trail are being re-routed to provide for a more sustainable trail route that will minimize soil erosion and reduce impacts to plant and animal habitat on OSMP lands.

Trail work is generally physically demanding, involving hiking, walking over uneven terrain, lifting, and using hand tools. Volunteers must be age 18 or older; those 14 to 17 years of age are accepted if accompanied by a parent or guardian. To learn more and/or to register for this event, go to www.bouldercolorado.gov/osmpvolunteers. Scroll down a bit and you will see the Homestead Trail Project listed under ‘Volunteer Trail Projects for 2012.’

Interested volunteers are encouraged to register soon since these events are filling up quickly!
