Commercial Buildings Energy Rating and Reporting

Program Development

About the Pilot Program

As a component of the City of Boulder's Commercial Energy Efficiency Strategy, the city launched a pilot program in September, 2012 to explore the development of a standard procedure for rating the energy performance of existing commercial buildings. Building owners could volunteer their buildings for participation up to December 14, 2012. The pilot will demonstrate how participating building owners, tenants, and the city can better understand existing commercial buildings' energy use and identify areas where energy efficiency upgrades could help businesses or property owners save money.

Depending on the results of the pilot program, the city will consider an energy rating and reporting program in 2013 that would require commercial building owners to rate their building's energy performance and report it to the city.
