Sidewalk Snow Removal
Call the Public Works Department for a free Snow Removal brochure: 303-413-7162.Report a sidewalk snow removal violation
City ordinance requires property owners adjacent to a sidewalk to clear the sidewalk of snow and ice by noon the day following a snowstorm. This includes any sidewalk that abuts the property and the portion of the sidewalk that projects across an alley. A single warning will be issued for first-time violations of the sidewalk snow removal ordinance. Subsequent violations during the winter season will result in a summons issued to the responsible party. In the past, multiple warnings have been issued. The maximum fine is $1,000 and 90 days in jail as determined by the Municipal Judge. The fine for a first-time offense is $100. Adult residents, property owners and agents are all responsible for sidewalk snow removal for a single-family dwelling, a duplex, a triplex, or a four-plex. Property owners and their agents are responsible for sidewalk snow removal for other multi-family properties as well as commercial and industrial properties. Snow removed from sidewalks needs to be kept on the property. It is against city code to deposit snow (plow, shovel, or coarse to deposit) upon any street sidewalk or alley. If your sidewalk is adjacent to a primary snow route, please wait until the snow plows have cleared the streets before shoveling. Plows may need to push snow onto curbs and sidewalks, to keep streets clear. To report sidewalk snow removal violations, please call Environmental Enforcement at 303-441-3239.
Senior citizens and physically disabled persons who are unable to clear snow from their sidewalks may receive assistance through the ICEBUSTERS Program.
