Evacuation

Wildfire Preparedness

Get Ready

Evacuation Plan - All family members need to know what to do if you are evacuated or unable to return home. Know local  evacuation routes.Think about alternate routes you could use if necessary because of road closures.

House Address
- Make sure house numbers are visible from the street.

Meeting Place - Designate a  meeting place away from home well known to family.

Contact Person - Choose an out-of-the-area contact person to relay information about your welfare to family and friends and to keep your phone lines open.

Medical Needs - Assemble prescription drugs, etc., for evacuation.

Documents - Collect birth certificates, social security cards, wills, account numbers, policies, securities, pictures, household inventory and portable valuables for easy evacuation. Consider backing up your computer's hard drive on a portable drive.

Pets - Assemble a pet kit with food, leashes, and medicines for easy evacuation. If you believe an evacuation may be imminent, consider moving your pet to another location. In some emergencies, humane societies offer temporary shelter for small animals. Check with emergency officials for larger animal options.

Basic disaster kit - Assemble an evacuation kit that includes a radio, flashlight, extra batteries, some food, water, a change of clothing and items to occupy small children, if applicable

Evacuate

Evacuate Immediately  - Wildfire is unpredictable and moves fast!

Contact Numbers  -  Put a note on the door with your contact phone numbers so you may be located in the event firefighters need to reach you.

Turn on outdoor house lights  -  This helps firefighters locate your house.

Shelter  -  Shelter locations will be announced based on location of fire. Even if you have made arrangements to stay with family members or friends, it is worthwhile to check in and register at an evacuation center or shelter as you may be eligible for other resources and assistance.
