• If your car is stolen, report it to the police immediately.  Also, report abandoned cars to the local agency that handles their removal.  It may be someone else's stolen vehicle.
• When buying a used car from an individual or dealer, make sure you have the proper title, that the vehicle identfication number (VIN) is intact, and that the federal safety inspection sticker is on the inside of the driver's door.  The number on that sticker should match the VIN.
• While buying a car, be suspicious of any deal that sounds "too good to be true."  Be sure that the name, address on the registration, and title match the name and address of the person selling the car.
