Information for Jurors

Citizens summoned to jury service in the Boulder Municipal Court are asked to take a day out of their busy lives and participate in a fundamental obligation of citizenship in our American democracy. The right of every citizen to a trial by jury is one of the most important American liberties. No such trial is possible without jurors. A juror’s job is to serve as the ultimate finder of fact in a court trial.

The Boulder Municipal Court adheres to the one-day or one-trial jury system. This mandates that when randomly selected citizens are summoned, they are expected to serve one day or, if selected for trial, for the duration of that trial. The length of trials in Boulder Municipal Court is typically one day, however, there is a possibility that a jury trial may last up to three days.

Jury trials in the Boulder Municipal Court are typically held every other Thursday and jurors are summoned to appear at the Boulder Municipal Courtroom in the Boulder County Justice Center, at 1777 6th St. (6th & Canyon). Jurors are to report at 8:15 a.m. on the appearance date. Free parking is provided directly across the street from the Justice Center.

To confirm that you have been summoned as a potential juror in Boulder Municipal Court, view pdf the jury summons form (5.69 KB).  If you have received a red, white and blue jury summons, you have likely been summoned to Boulder County/District Combined Court.

You may qualify to be excused from jury service at the Boulder Municipal Court only if you do not meet the minimum juror qualifications. To view the minimum qualifications for Boulder Municipal Court jury service click here. Please note, there are no occupational exemptions from jury duty.

If you qualify to serve as a municipal court juror but you have a scheduling conflict, you may submit a written request to be postponed from jury service. Please include in your letter the reason for your request, dates when you will be available within the next six months, and a daytime phone number in the event the jury commissioner needs to contact you by phone.

Jury trials are frequently cancelled in municipal court. To avoid unnecessary appearance, view the current jury trial status or call 303-441-3883 after 5 p.m., the day before your appearance date for recorded information regarding the status of the upcoming trial.
