Current Projects

Current Wildland Fire Coordination Projects:

1. Acquiring prescribed fire information in a timely manner from OS/MP to develop burn plans, fire behavior and air quality assessments for safe and effective implementation in 2008.

2. Developing 2008 training schedule with the Boulder County Wildland Fire Cooperators.

3. Updating the Boulder County Wildland Fire Task Force Operational Plans.

4. Working with the Colorado State Forest Service, State Forester, State Representatives, Fire Chiefs, local, regional and federal agencies to develop long term funding and management strategies for the Rocky Mountain Interagency Helicopter Program.

 

 


Ongoing/Annual Projects:
  1. Assist OS/MP and Utilities in forestry management/wildfire hazard reduction projects. These projects involve thinning, directional falling, limbing, chipping, decking, etc.
  2. Clear through burning, all ditch waterways on agricultural lands owned by OS/MP. Approximately 10-15 miles/year.
  3. Facilitate the annual wildland fire safety refresher to City, County and other cooperators.
  4. Plan and implement the Boulder County Basic Wildland Fire School (S- 130/S-190) and other associated National Wildfire Coordinating Group courses.
  5. Staff and respond to emergency incidents on or threatening City lands.
  6. Plan and implement all prescribed fire opportunities on OS/MP and Utilities properties.
  7. Provide the physical (Pack Test) to all red carded City employees.
  8. Provide wildland fire prevention and education programs to the public through various festivals, symposiums, neighborhood meetings, fairs, etc.
  9. Update and maintain the wildland fire training records of all City employees.
  10. Participate in the Boulder County Wildfire Mitigation Group, Boulder County Wildfire Task Force, Boulder County Firefighters Association, Colorado Front Range Wildland Fire Cooperators, Colorado Wildfire Academy and College, Rocky Mountain Coordination Group, Operations Committee, and National Wildfire Coordinating Group.
  11. Maintain cooperative interagency agreements and relationships with the contracted fire districts, sheriffs department, and associated local, state and federal land and emergency management agencies.
  12. Maintain all assigned wildland fire apparatus and equipment for the Division and Fire Department.
  13. Provide emergency management assistance during All-Risk incidents within the City and County.
  14. Maintain National Wildland Fire Coordinating Group qualifications within the Division. Currently, the incident management qualifications and capabilities within the Department exceeds that of any in the State.

Implement Community Wildfire Protection Plan recommendations.
